Is Hockey a varsity sport at Lawrence Tech?  No, to be classified a Varsity Sport it has to be completely funded by the University.

Who is Eligible to play?   You must have a 2.0 or higher GPA and be enrolled in 9 credits (6 credits for graduate students).  You cannot have previous experience where you were paid to play.  You have 5 years of eligibility in ACHA Division 3, only 4 years if you played at a higher level previously.

What are some cool things about club sports?  The LTU Club Team is like a varsity sport at most schools.  You get the students attending the games, recognition on campus and the road trips are fun.  It is also a great way to meet new people at the University that form lasting friendships.

How much are tickets?  Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.  Season passes are also available if you contact any of the players or Student Recreation at the Field house.

Do you have a University Coaching Staff?  Yes, the head coach is hired by the University and he hires his staff.

Who funds the sport?   The University has budget for the basic program costs, such as ice time, referees, busses for travel, and some equipment.   The Booster Club supplements the University budget by purchasing some equipment, player wearables, and miscellaneous expenses.  The players also have a fee to play to offset University costs.

Can I join the team in the second half of the season?  If you are eligible, you can join the team roster up to January 30th based on openings determined by the head coach.  Some restrictions apply if you are transferring from a league school.

How many games do you play?  Usually 24 to 30 games depending on tournaments and the number of playoff games.

When does your season start and how long does it last?  Our tryouts are in the beginning of September, the games start in Mid-October, and the season ends in Mid-March.

When do you play?  Games are all on the weekend until playoffs, so they don’t interfere with classes.  Most games are on Friday and Saturday nights.

Where do you play?  Our home games are at Southfield Arena which is located off Evergreen Road in the Southfield Municipal Complex.  This is only about 5 minutes from campus.

How do I tryout for the team?   If you are interested in the team you can access the Recruitment Section on the Website.  Your information will be sent to the head coach.  Tryouts for the 2007-2008 season are September 7th-9th at the Southfield Sports Arena (Click here for more information)

What is the ACHA?  The ACHA stands for American Collegiate Hockey Association.  This is the governing body for Division II and Division III College Hockey in the United States.  We are a member of the Division III and are part of the MCHA (Michigan Collegiate Hockey Association) League.  You can access more information for associations through the links on "Outside Links" page.

What Colleges and Universities do you play against?  Hope College, Calvin College, Northwood University, Oakland University, Albion College, Lansing Community College, Grand Valley State University, Saginaw Valley State University, Alpena Community College, as well as non-conference games out of state.  You can access our 2007-2008 schedule here.
