Calvin College (2/19/2009) The Blue Devils played their last game of the season today, falling to the Calvin College Knights by a score of 4-0. Unable to mount any kind of offensive attack, LTU only mustered 21 shots on Calvin goalie Chris Pasma. The game featured a scoreless first and third period, which were closely played and very fast, but the Calvin offense rallied for a four goal second period to put away the Blue Devils for good. Senior goaltender Matt Beck made 25 of 29 saves for LTU. Following the game, the MCHC honored Senior Forward Andy Kruczynski, Junior Forward Dan Baker, and Senior Goaltender Matt Beck with All-Conference selections, as well as Head Coach Kevin Gee, who was named the MCHC Coach of the Year. Lansing Community College (2/15/2009) The (#4) LTU Blue Devils knocked off the ( #10) Lansing College Stars Saturday in the North Regional Consolation round by a score of 9-2. Senior Andy Kruczynski led the Blue Devils with 2 goals and 2 assists, while junior Mike Smartt ( goal and 2 assists) and Senior Andrew Aulerich ( 2 goals , 1 assist ) each added three points. Senior Goalie Matt Beck made 33 of 35 saves for LTU. The Blue Devils also got multi-point games from seven other players, including forward Eric Reinhardt who added a pair of goals. Delta College (2/14/2009) The (#4) Blue Devils had their hopes for a National Championship berth cut short by the upstate (#9) Delta College Pioneers by a score of 9-7 friday at the Southside Ice Arena in Grand Rapids. The Pioneers would eliminate the 3rd and 4th seeds of the North Region in a very surprising series of upset victories over LTU and Calvin College. The Blue Devils were led by Junior Mike Smartt and Senior Andy Kruczynski, who each added a goal and an assist. Senior Goaltender Matt Beck made 34 of 42 saves. Saginaw Valley State University (2/07/2009) The red-hot Saginaw Valley Cardinals downed LTU 9-4 Saturday night in Saginaw. Senior forward Andy Kruczynski had 2 goals and 2 assists, while Senior forward Dan Baker added 2 goals and an assist for the lone bright spots on the night. Freshman goalie Cyrus Sarosh was forced to leave the game after the 2nd period and was rushed to Saginaw Covenant Hospital were he was treated for dehydration and exhaustion. Sarosh had been battling the flu all weekend long. Veteran defenseman Brian Czarnecki finished the game in goal for LTU, turning aside 8 of 10 shots. The Blue Devils have now lost their last 5 games without Senior goaltender Matt Beck, who is tending to family issues. Calvin College (2/06/2009) The injury depleted Blue Devils suffered another loss Friday, this time at the hands of the Calvin College Knights by a score of 6-2. Freshman goalie Cyrus Sarosh was pressed into action again, turning aside 37 of 43 shots. Senior Andy Kruczynski and Freshman Joe Donelko added goals for LTU. Senior forward Paul James and Freshman forward Joe Allen were each whistled for game disqualifications as the game became very physical in the late stages. LTU travels to Saginaw Valley on Saturday. Northwood University (1/31/2009) An injury depleted LTU Blue Devil hockey team traveled to Northwood University on saturday, and were beaten 12-5 by their MCHC league opponent. Ravaged by injury, the Blue Devils goaltending and defense was unable to stop the Northwood onslaught. Freshman goalie Cyrus Sarosh saw his first league action but seemed overwhelmed as he faced 40 shots from the Timberwolves. LTU remains without star goalie Matt Beck ( family ) defensemen Andrew Aulerich ( ankle ) and Mark Koenigsknecht ( knee ) as well as forward Chris Brewer ( back ) and Paul James ( personal ). The Blue Devils will try to bounce back this weekend with games against calvin College and Saginaw Valley. Hope College (1/24/2009) After a hard fought battle the previous night in Southfield, the Blue Devils traveled to Holland to take on the Dutchmen once again, hoping for a weekend split with the perennial powerhouse. LTU got on the board quick, jumping out to a 2 goal lead on goals by Josh Sliter and Joe Donelko. After drawing even and pulling ahead by a goal, the Dutchmen scored three straight unanswered goals in the third period. LTU's Ben Sultana would add another goal, but it wouldn't be enough as the Blue Devils fell to Hope 7-4. Freshman Joe Donelko had a goal and two assists and Senior Goaltender Matt Beck stopped 43 of 50 shots to lead LTU. Hope College (1/23/2009) The 2nd seed for the North region was on the line Friday night in front of a record crowd as The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils were downed by Hope College 4-3. In a fast paced game, LTU found itself down early to the Flying Dutchmen, and evetually down 3-1 after two periods of play. Senior Andy Kruczynski scored at the 18:08 mark and the 5:15 mark to pull the game even. LTU surrendered the game winning goal with 2:36 to play and was unable to connect on any chances with the extra attacker. Senior Goaltender Matt Beck made 43 of 47 saves for LTU. Adrian College (1/18/2009) The road weary Blue Devils needed a shootout victory to earn their last two points of a perfect weekend on the road at Adrian College sunday. Playing a matinee game after a hardfought battle saturday night, the LTU icers showed some signs of fatigue late in the game and could not protect a two goal lead in the third period. Despite the long weekend, LTU had a goal and an assist each from Andy Kruczynski, Joe Allen, and Captain Andrew Aulerich. Kruczynski scored the game winner in the shootout while veteran goalie Matt Beck stopped all three Adrian shooters. Oakland University (1/17/2009) LTU hosted MCHC rival Oakland University saturday at the Southfield Sports Arena, continuing the tradition and rich rivalry between the two local teams. The Blue Devils battled back from a 3-1 deficit to win 6-4 on home ice in front of one of the noisiest crowds of the season. LTU was paced by Senior forward Dan Baker's 3 assists, as well as 3 point games from both Andy Kruczynski and Richard Parkinson. Senior goaltender Matt Beck backstopped the Blue Devils to their 14th win of the season, turning aside 32 of 36 shots. Adrian College (1/16/2009) The Blue Devils traveled to Adrian College for their first of two meetings with the Bulldogs. After a slow start, the LTU icers started to click en route to a 5-3 victory. With new line combinations and Captain Andrew Aulerich making the switch to defense, the Blue Devils made the neccessary adjustments and put forth a complete effort. LTU was led by senior Andy Kruczynski's goal and assist, as well as Aulerich's two assists. Senior goalie Matt Beck made 22 of 25 saves for his 12th victory of the season. Central Michigan University (1/09/2009) The Blue Devils had their first taste of competition from the Division 2 level as they travelled to Mt. Pleasant to take on the red-hot Chippewas from CMU. The score does not indicate how well LTU played, creating some excellent scoring chances that just didnt fall in. The Blue Devils appeared confident and well prepared as they carried the play for the first 8 minutes of the 1st period, when Joe Allen struck first for the Blue Devils on a nice feed from Joe Donelko and Paul James at 16:42. The Chippewas offense proved to be too much for LTU as they scored six unanswered goals on 45 shots to beat LTU 6-2. Senior Andy Kruczynski added a powerplay goal at 4:20 of the 3rd period. East All Stars vs West All Stars (1/03/2009) For the third straight year, the East Division All Stars downed the West Division representatives by a score of 11-5. The East Division All Stars were made up of players from LTU, Saginaw Valley, Oakland, and Northwood. Leading the way for LTU in the skills competition was Richard Parkinson, who won the hardest shot competetion with an 88 mph blast. Parkinson also added a goal in the All Star Game that proved to be the game winner. Senior Andy Kruczynski also added a pair of goals for the East, and Matt Beck turned aside 21 of 22 shots in his first All Star Game appearance. Northwood University (12/20/2008) The LTU Blue Devils shook off some rust after a slow start and beat perennial powerhouse Northwood University Saturday night by a 4-2 score. Senior defenseman Ben Sultana led the Blue Devils with a goal and an assist, and Freshman Nick Kent scored a shorthanded goal that proved to be the game winner. Senior goaltender Matt Beck continued his hot streak, turning aside 34 of 36 Northwood shots on goal. Freshman center Joe Donelko broke out of his slump, tallying his first point in 12 games, and won several key faceoffs late in the game for LTU. The 3rd ranked Blue Devils return to the ice on January 9th when they travel to Mt. Pleasant to face off against Division 2 Central Michigan University. Grand Valley State University (12/13/2008) Senior goaltender Matt Beck stole the show, turning aside 38 Laker shots en route to his second shutout performance of the year and a 1-0 victory for the 11-3 Blue Devils. A definite barnburner, both teams had plenty of offensive opportunity. However, Beck and GVSU goaltender Max Cookingham dueled through two scoreless periods until junior Jesse Edwards scored on a wraparound goal midway through the third frame to put the Blue Devils ahead. LTU takes on Northwood University Saturday night at the Southfield Sports Arena. Akron University (12/06/2008) The Blue Devils and Zips traded goals through the first two periods Saturday, but the LTU powerplay was too much for Akron to handle as the 'Devs cruised to an 8-5 victory. Noticeably rusty following the thanksgiving break, the Blue Devils maintained their composure and struck for 5 power-play goals, as well as three unaswered tallied in the third period. LTU was paced by senior Andy Kruczynski's 4 goals and 1 assist, and senior Dan Baker's 2 goals and 3 assists. Senior Goaltender Matt Beck earned his 8th win of the season. LTU takes on the Grand Valley State University Lakers Saturday night at the Southfield Sports Arena at 730pm. Jackson Community College (11/22/2008) The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils earned a much needed victory Saturday night over the JCC Jets to extend their record to 9-3. LTU Freshman goalie Cyrus Sarosh earned his first win in goal for the Blue Devils, turning aside 14 of 17 shots in his first collegiate start. Offensively, LTU was paced by Senior Ben Sultana's 4 assists, and Freshman Nick Kent's 3 goal natural hat trick to seal the victory. The Blue Devils return to the ice Dec 6th when they host the University of Akron Zips at the Southfield Sports Arena. Lansing Community College (11/21/2008) LTU was downed 6-5 by the Lansing College Stars friday night at the Summit Center, as the Blue Devils fall to 8-3 on the season. Action was back and forth all night long, with both teams trading goals throughout. The story of the game was Lansing goaltender Matt Maksymowski, who turned aside 44 of LTU's 49 shots. Also, only one penalty was called by referee Jack Mc Coy all night, making for a fast paced and unpredictable game. The Blue Devils were led by Freshman Nick Kent, who added 2 goals, as well as Paul James, Ben Sultana, and Chris Brewer who each tallied 2 assists. Davenport University (11/15/2008) The Blue Devils broke out of their scoring drought for 8 goals in an 8-3 win over the Davenport Panthers Saturday night. LTU was led by the outstanding goaltending of Senior Matt Beck, who turned aside 32 of 35 shots, including two amazing saves in the early going to protect the Blue Devils lead. Offensively, Senior Andy Kruczynski had a goal and two assists to take his team high point total to 20. Freshman Mark Koenigsknecht also had a goal and two assists for the 8-2 Blue Devils. LTU travels to Lansing College on Friday to take on the Stars. Calvin College (11/08/2008) LTU was beaten badly at home Saturday night by rival Calvin College. After a scoreless first period, Calvin added a pair of goals in the second frame. LTU had a handful of quality scoring chances but could not connect. In the third period, LTU continued its dangerous habit of getting into penalty trouble, and Calvin answered with three powerplay goals en route to a 7-2 victory. LTU got goals from Andy Kruczynski (8-10-18) and Joe Allen (7-6-13). The Blue Devils host Davenport University at 7:30pm Saturday night at the SSA. Oakland University (11/07/2008) The Blue Devils returned to form Friday night with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies at the Detroit Skate Club. LTU forward Nick Kent opened the scoring midway thru the first period on a setup from Levi Parkinson and Mark Koenigsknecht. Seniors Dan Baker and Andy Kruczynski also added goals during regulation. While maintaining a 3-1 lead through the second period, Oakland netted two third period tallies to force the game into overtime, and an eventual shootout. LTU got three straight goals from Joe Allen, Andy Kruczynski, and Nick Kent before Junior Forward Richard Parkinson won it for the Blue Devils. Senior goaltender Matt Beck stopped 41 of 44 shots for his 7th win. Kettering University (11/01/2008) The Blue Devils were cut down in convincing fashion by the visiting Bulldogs, giving LTU its first regulation loss of the season. The 4-1 Kettering win saw LTU outshoot its opponent by a total of 54-19, but the lackluster effort did not creat any quality scoring chances. Sophomore goalie Ryan van Wert surrendered all 4 goals and was credited with the loss for LTU, but gave way to Freshman Cyrus Sarosh at 19:30 of the 2nd period. Sarosh was the lone bright spot for LTU turning aside all ten shots he faced. The Blue Devils return to action in MCHC league play Friday night at Oakland University. Saginaw Valley State University (10/25/2008) LTU and Saginaw Valley played to a 3-3 tie Saturday in front of a noisy crowd at the Southfield Sports Arena. After a scoreless overtime, SVSU came out on top of a three round shootout. Both teams traded goals from start to finish during the fast paced game, which saw Senior Andy Kruczynski net a goal and an assist, as well as a shootout goal for LTU. Senior goaltender Matt Beck was impressive in goal turning aside 31 of 34 shots. #2 ranked LTU hosts Kettering University Saturday at 730pm at the Southfield Sports Arena Grand Valley State University(10/24/2008) The 2nd ranked Blue Devils stretched their unbeaten streak to 6 games on Friday with a 7-5 victory over the Grand Valley Lakers. The game was not as close as the scores indicates, as the Blue Devils took a 7-1 lead into the third period before getting into penalty trouble. GVSU mounted a late attack but the LTU penalty killers were too much for the late push. Freshman Joe Allen led the Blue Devils with a goal and two assists. Captain Andrew Aulerich and Richard Parkinson each added two goals for LTU. Senior Goaltender Matt Beck earned his 6th victory. Lansing Community College (10/18/2008) The Blue Devils won their home opener Saturday night, stretching their unbeaten record to 5-0 on the season. In front of a full, noisy crowd, LTU downed division rival Lansing Community College 6-1 on a four point effort from Freshman Joe Allen ( Woodhaven, MI / Helena Bighorns Jr. A ). Allen connected for two goals and two assists, including a shorthanded goal and a perfect shot on the powerplay that was tipped by Rich Parkinson. Senior Andy Kruczynski added 2 goals and an assist to take his season point total to 12 points in 5 games played. Another excellent outing by senior goalie Matt Beck, who has a league best 4-0 record and 0.75 GAA earned him his second straight player of the week honor. The Blue Devils hit the road for a game against Grand Valley State University on Friday night in Grand Rapids. Davenport University (10/17/2008) The LTU Blue Devils continued their unbeaten streak with a 6-1 road victory over the Davenport University Panthers at Patterson Arena in Grand Rapids Friday night. Once again, Senior goaltender Matt Beck was the star of the game, turning aside 26 of 27 Davenport shots. In addition to Beck, the dominant LTU penalty kill was a perfect 8 for 8, as well as adding a pair of shorthanded goals. Offensively, the Blue Devils were led by Captain Andrew Aulerich, who had a goal and 2 assists in the contest. LTU returns home for the season home opener at Southfield Sports Arena Saturday night against the Lanisng College Stars. Game time is 730pm. ACHA Show Case Tournament Christopher Newport University (10/04/2008) LTU took on South Conference powerhouse Christopher Newport University Saturday night in the final game of the ACHA Showcase in Roanoke, VA. Senior goalie Matt Beck (Dearborn, MI / Brownstown Bombers Jr. A) was dominant for the second time this weekend as he backstopped the Blue Devils (3-0) to their third win in as many nights, turning aside 21-of 22 shots. LTU was paced by Joe Allen (Woodhaven, MI / Helena Bighorns Jr. A) who tallied 2 goals and 2 assists vs. the Captains. Freshman Nick Kent (Commerce, MI / Central Michigan University) added a goal and two assists for LTU. The Blue Devils are idle this weekend, but begin the regular season on the road at Davenport University Friday, Oct 17th, and for the home opener against the Lansing College Stars on Saturday, Oct 18. ACHA Show Case Tournament Radford (10/03/2008) LTU continued its winning ways friday night with a 15-1 pumping of Radford University in the second game of the ACHA Showcase Tournamnet in Roanoke, VA. The Blue Devils balanced attack was too much for the Highlanders, who could not match LTU's hard puck pressure and smooth passing. Senior Andy Kruczynski ( Westland, MI / Detroit Belle Tire ) had two goals and two assists, and Junior Richard Parkinson ( Milford, MI / Milford Prep) had a goal and three assists. Freshman Mark Koenigsknecht, Ben Videan, and Alex Shub all scored their first collegiate goals, Sophomore Goaltender Ryan Van Wert earned the win for LTU. Freshman goalie Cyrus Sarosh came on in relief of Van Wert in the the third period for the Blue Devils. LTU takes on Christopher Newport University at 9pm tonight. ACHA Show Case Tournament Hofstra (10/02/2008) The Blue Devils opened their season today with a 5-0 win over the Hofstra University Pride at the ACHA Showcase Tournament in Roanoke, Virginia. The Blue Devils were slow to start, but added 4 third-period goals to move to 1-0 in the tournament, while special teams were key as LTU held Hofstra to 0 for 11 on the power play. LTU got two goals from Junior Forward Mike Smartt (St. Clair Shores, MI / Notre Dame Prep) and two assists from Senior Forward Andy Kruczynski (Westland, MI / Detroit Belle Tire). Senior Matt Beck (Dearborn, MI / Brownstown Bombers Jr. A) earned his first shuout of the year in goal for LTU, turning aside 18 shots. Freshman Joe Donelko (Troy, MI / Avondale HS) scored his first collegiate goal for the Blue Devils. LTU takes on Radford University at 9pm on Friday MCHC Playoffs Hope College (02/21/2008) The LTU Icers had their season ended by the high powered offense of the Hope Flying Dutchmen Thursday night in Midland. Although the Blue Devils had fared better against Hope than any other MCHC team, the first two games resulting in one goal losses, LTU couldnt mount any sort of attack and was down three goals to none after the first period. Hope Outshot LTU by a count of 45- 24 and scored three powerplay goals. Freshman Levi Parkinson scored the lone goal for LTU, and senior goalie Tom Beetham took the loss in his last game as a Blue Devil. The Blue Devils finsihed the season with an 18-11-0-1 record, a five win improvement over last season's 13-17 mark.North Regional Consolation Northern Kentucky University (02/16/2008) The LTU Blue Devils beat the NKU Norsemen 6-4 in the North Region consolation round Saturday in Saginaw, MI. Even after a great start, LTU surrenedered two goals in the first on a questionable powerplay and a fluke breakaway, but rebounded quickly with a 4 goal flurry in the second frame. Junior defenseman Ben Sultana led the Devils with 2 goals and 2 assists to add to his career high point totals.Junior goalie Matt Beck made 23 saves to earn the win. LTU travels to Midland on Thursday for the opening round of the MCHC Playoffs against Hope College.North Regional Quarter Finals Lansing College (02/15/2008) LTU's hopes
for a national championship berth were quelled today as the Blue Devils ( 17-10-0-1 ) were defeated 4-1 by the Lansing College Stars. Sophomore defenseman Mike Hargraves scored the lone LTU goal with only 9 seconds remaining, capping off a frustrating day that saw numerous shots turned away by the Stars goaltending. Senior goalie Tom Beetham surrendered two goals apiece in the first two periods, before giving way to Junior Matt Beck at the Delta College (02/10/2008) Sophomore Richard Parkinson led the Devils on Sunday, adding three goals en route to a 5-4 LTU win. Freshamn Ryan Van Wert made 31 saves in 2 periods of work and Matt Beck made made 9 saves in one period of action as he is returning from a recent knee injury. Freshman Brandon Tom was whistled for a fighting major and a game misconduct after a third period tangle with Delta's Josh Laporte.Saginaw Valley State University (02/09/2008) LTU won a key game in their march to the final four Saturday with a last minute victory over the Cardinals from SVSU. After building a 2-0 lead in the first period, LTU got into penalty trouble and fell behind 3-2 in the second. LTU scored the game tying goal midway through the third on a Ben sultana blast from the point that was tipped by captain Andrew Aulerich. The score remained knotted at 3 for the rest of the period. With 2:35 remaining, Sultana was whistled for checking from behind to put SVSU on the powerplay for almost the remainder of the game. LTU's dominant penalty kill took over forcing several turnovers. With :55 seconds left, newcomer Jesse Edwards took a feed from Mike Smart at the point and beat cardinal goalie Brad Altenbernt for the Game winner.Hope College (02/08/2008) The high powered offense of the Hope Flying Dutchmen was too much for goalie Tom Beetham and the Blue Devils Friday night at SSA. Although LTU has put in two solid efforts against Hope, they could not mount an offensive attack, as they were limited to a Mike Smart goal in the second period. LTU was outshot 46-20 as Beetham made 42 saves for LTU.Lansing Community College (02/02/2008) LTU broke out of its slump in big fashion Saturday night
as it mustered 8 goals against Lansing's usually stingy goaltending. LCC was
forced to change goalies not once, but twice following the LTU onslaught,
led my sophomore Mike Smartt's 2 goals and 2 assists performance. Junior
goaltender Matt Beck recorded his first win a month making 31 of 36 saves for
the Blue Devils. LTU has three games this weekend, home vs Hope College
Friday at 9pm,
home vs. Saginaw Valley Saturday at 7:30pm, and on the road at Delta
College Sunday at
5pm. Lake Superior State (01/26/2008) LTU seemed to be back on track putting forth a solid 60 minute effort against the understaffed Lakers, but two LSSU powerplay goals were enough to keep the score tight. LTU outshot LSSU 43-23 but were thwarted by the play of Laker goalie Mike Zavislak who turned away 41 of 43 shots. LTU Freshman Ryan Van Wert was called into action after both starting goalies were tending to nagging injuries. Regulation time ended with a 2-2 tie, and that score would stand through the overtime period, resulting in the first shootout opportunity of the year for LTU. LTU and LSSU traded goals in the shootout, but went up a goal on LSSU forward Al Stanker's goal in the fifth round. junior Captain Andrew Aulerich had a chance to tie but could not connect. LTU got points from seven different players in the contest.Lansing Community College (01/25/2008) LTU dropped another game extending their losing streak to 5 games. Although the game was the best effort LTU has put forth in the last few weeks, they were unable to hold the Stars power play in check. After injury forced LTU starting goalie Tom Beetham from the net, Junior Matt Beck, who has struggled as of late, surrendered three powerplay goals in the third period, resulting in a 7-3 LCC win. Sophomore Mike Smartt had a goal and an assist in the loss for LTU.Grand Valley State (01/19/2008) LTU continued its slide, streching its winless record to four games saturday. After spotting the Lakers a four goal lead, LTU tried some last minute heroics, cutting the GVSU lead to 5-3. The Lakers scored on a penalty shot late in the third to derail the LTU rally. Defenseman Dan Baker and Ben Sultana each added two assists, and goalie Tom Beetham made 35 of 41 saves.Oakland University (01/18/2008) The Blue Devils dropped their third in a row, losing to a weaker opponent in OU. The Blue Devils were flat throughout the game and could not overcome several shorthanded situations as the Grizzlies cruised to a 6-2 victory. Junior Forward Andy Kruczynski added to his team leading point totals by adding a goal and an assist. Golatender Matt Beck made 32 saves on 38 shots.Hope College (01/12/2008) After spotting the dangerous Flying Dutchmen a 2 goal lead in the first period, the Blue Devils settled in and began to battle back against the top ranked team. Following a scoreless second period, LTU struck first in the 3rd to cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Josh Sliter. 45 seconds later, the LTU icers scored again, on a point shot from assistant captain Craig Schmehl. LTU dominated the play for most of the third period, but could not connect on several scoring chances, including a missed empty net, and two hit posts on the same shift. Hope forward Ryan kelly netted the game winner on a rebound shot with 4 minutes remaining. Senior Goalie Tommy Beetham was the star of the game, making 49 of 52 savesGrand Valley State (01/11/2008) After a fast start, the travel weary Bluedevils had some mental breakdowns in the second period, resulting in two shorthanded goals, and two powerplay goals for the host Lakers. LTU, normally strong on special teams, has only allowed one other shorthanded goal this season, and leads the league in penalty killing percentage. Sophomore Mike Smart scored the lone goal for LTU, and Junior goaltender Matt Beck made 34 of 38 saves.All Stars Game (01/05/2008) Defenseman Dan Baker ( Wyandotte, MI / Detroit Trackers Midget Major ) won the Hardest Shot competition during the skills challenge at the MCHC All Star game this weekend in Midland. Also winning individual events was goalie Tommy Beetham, who stopped all shooters to win the breakaway competition and the rapid fire events. The East division jumped out to early lead in the all star points race by dominating the skills challenge by a score of 13-1. The final score of the game was East 15, West 9. IPFW (01/04/2008) The Blue Devil Icers traveled to Ft. Wayne, IN. on Friday to take on the IPFW Mastodons for the second time this season. The results were no different this time either, as the Blue Devils cruised to a 6-2 victory. Freshman Josh Sliter scored his first collegiate goal, which proved to be the game winner. Tommy Beetham and Matt Beck combined for the victory in goal. Northwood University (12/15/2007) LTU and Northwood traded powerplay goals all night long, as both teams were very physical throughout the game. Although the score may not reflect it, the battle between top ranked goalies Joe Riehl of NU and Matt Beck of LTU was key, as Riehl stopped 35 of 41 LTU shots, and Beck stopped 41 of 48 shots by the Timberwolves. Sophomore Mike Smartt had a goal and three assists, and junior Ben Sultana had two goals ( both powerplay ) and assist on the night. LTU's recorddrops to 13-4 as they head into the break. The Blue Devils hit the road for a game at IPFW in Ft Wayne on Jan 4th before the All Star game in Midland on the 5th. ! Jackson Community College (12/09/2007) Junior Forward Andy Kruczynski had a hat trick and defenseman Ben Sultana scored on a penalty shot as LTU beat up on underpowered JCC for the second straight game. Freshamn Ryan Van Wert earned his second shutout of the year as LTU went on to beat JCC 8-0. LTU stretched its record to 13-3 as it gears up for a home ice rematch with Northwood University. The Timberwolves won the first game 4-0 in Midland in October. Jackson Community College (12/08/2007) LTU was dominant even though several starters were sitting out nursing some nagging injuries. Freshman Goalie Ryan van Wert carried the load for LTU turning aside 22 shots in a 4-1 win. Sophomore Mike Smartt had a goal and an assist as LTU claimed the Championship Trophy in the inaugural JCC Invitational. Oakland University (12/07/2007) The Blue Devils won again in their second game of the day, beating the Golden Grizzlies 4-3 on a Richard Parkinson hat trick. Junior Dan Baker stretched his point streak six games adding a goal and an assist. Senior Goalie Tommy Beetham made 40 saves for LTU. The 10-3 Blue Devils play two games against tourney host JCC this weekend. Penn State-Behrend (12/07/2007) LTU relied on Senior captain Kyle Dehenau's goal and 2 assists effort Friday afternoon, while Junior defenseman Dan Baker added a goal and an assist in the 5-4 win. The Atlantic division powerhouse PSB was stopped in its tracks by the third period heroics of Junior Goalkeeper Matt Beck, who turned asided 17 shots, including 6 minutes shorthanded in the final stanza. The game was the first of the inaugural JCC Jets Invitational Tournament in Jackson, MI. Calvin College (12/01/2007) LTU was bombed off the ice 8-1 by the rival Calvin College Knights saturday night at Southfield Sports Arena. The Blue Devils were handed their first bad loss of the season at the hands of the Knights, whom LTU beat 4-2 a week earlier on the road. Sophomore Mike Smartt scored the lone LTU goal on a setup from Andy Kruczynski. Junior Goaltender Matt Beck was pulled early in the second period after 4 questionable goals, but Senior Tom Beetham wasnt much better as he surrendered 4 goals of his own. IPFW (11/30/2007) The Blue Devils stretched their winning record to 9-2 Friday night with a victory over the IPFW Mastodons at the Southfield Sports Arena. Junior Forward Andy Kruczynski led the Devils with a goal and two assists, and Freshman defenseman Justin Jack added a goal and an assist. senior Goaltender Tommy Beetham made 22 saves to preserve the win for LTU. The Blue Devils take on rival Calvin College at 730 pm Saturday night at SSA. Albion College (11/17/2007)
The Blue devils were welcomed home by 300 noisy student fans on Spirit Night as LTU stretched itsrecord to 8-2 with a 6-0 home ice victory over the injury riddled Albion College Britons. GoaltendersMatt Beck and Ryan Van Wert combined for a shutout, as LTU outshot the Britons 66-10. Forward Mike Smartt and Defenseman Ben Sultana each had a goal and two assists. The Blue Devils return to the ice Nov 30th and Dec 1st as they host the IPFW Mastodons and Calvin College Knights.
Saginaw Valley State University (11/16/2007)
The Blue Devils lost a hardfought game Friday in Saginaw, as the Cardinals chased starting goalie Tommy Beetham out early. After spotting SVSU a three goal lead , junior goaltender Matt Beck came on in relief of Beetham at the 4 minute mark of the 2nd period and was flawless the rest of the way. Beck made several key saves as LTU battled back to score three unanswered goals in the second to even the game. After trading goals early in the third, LTU gave up the game winning goal at 17:36 of the 3rd period following several failed attempts to clear the puck out of their zone. Forward Eric Reinhardt had 4 assists for the Blue Devils ( 7-2-0 )
Oakland University (11/10/2007)
LTU continued its best-ever start Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Oakland University. After a scoreless 1st period, Oakland scored first to take a 1 goal lead into the dressing room. LTU posted 3 unanswered goals, including Junior Captain Andrew Aulerich's long blast that beat OU goaltender Micah Collins on the low stick side. Junior goalie Matt Beck was brilliant turning aside 42 OU shots, including 27 in the second period. Junior Ben Sultana added two assists, taking his season point total to 14. LTU travels to Saginaw Valley on Friday to take on the Cardinals.
Calvin College (11/09/2007)
The Blue Devils returned to form friday night in Grand Rapids as the host Calvin College Knights were downed 4-2 in front of a noisy crowd. After bouncing back from a loss to powerhouse Northwood University, LTU seemed better prepared for this weekend's competition. Lawrence Tech junior Kellan Pyszk scored the game winning goal ( his second of the year ) as the Blue Devils stretched their record to 6-1 on the season. Senior goalie Tommy Beetham made 34 saves en route to being named player of the game after making several key saves in the third period. LTU returns home saturday to face off against rival Oakland University. LTU's dominant penalty kill was a perfect 9 for 9 Friday.
Northwood University (11/02/2007) The LTU Blue Devils saw their 5 game unbeaten streak come to an end Friday night with a 4-0 loss to the Northwood University Timberwolves. LTU was flat in the first and second periods and couldn't seem to adjust to the Olympic sized ice surface, allowing four even strength goals on 36 shots. The Blue Devils were unable to create any offensive opportunities until the third period. Junior Goalie Matt beck made 34 saves including a scoreless third period, and the LTU penalty kill was dominant once again, Holding NU to 0 for 5 on the power play. LTU will play on the road Friday night at Calvin College, and will host Oakland University Saturday night in Southfield. Northern Kentucky (10/27/2007)

FRIDAY WITH A MUCH BETTER EFFORT. THE CONTEST WAS VERY TIGHT, WITH NKU AND LTU TRADING GOALS THROUGHOUT THE FIRST TWO PERIODS. BATTLING PENALTY TROUBLE ALL NIGHT, FORWARD ANDY KRUCZYNSKI MADE THE BEST OF A BAD SITUATION SCORING TWO SHORTHANDED GOALS IN THE THIRD PERIOD AND LEADING THE BLUE DEVILS PENALTY KILL TO ANOTHER EXCELLENT OUTING. NKU WAS ONLY 1 FOR 9 ON THE POWERPLAY. LTU TOOK ITS RECORD TO 5-0-0 ON THE SEASON FOR ITS BEST START IN TEAM HISTORY. Norsemen. In another high scoring game for the Blue Devils, Sophomore Rich
Parkinson led the team with 2 goals and 2 assists as LTU scored 10 unanswered
goals. Junior Goaltender Matt Beck turned aside 13 shots as the Blue Devils
cruised to a 10-1 victory.
U of Akron (10/20/2007) The LTU Blue Devils continued their winning ways with another blowout against the Akron Zips. This time, freshman goaltender. Ryan Van Wert led the way stopping all 16 Akron shots en route to a 10-0 Blue Devils victory. Freshman Eric Reinhardt had a goal and 4 assists, and junior Andy Kruczynski had 4 goals and 2 assists to lead LTU. The Devils travel to Northern Kentucky University this weekend to play a series against the 3-1 Norsemen.U of Akron (10/19/2007) The Blue Devils (2-0) extended their winning streak Friday by handing another loss to the Akron Zips (1-7). En route to a 16 -2 victory, the Devils got scoring from 7 different players. Freshman David Czarnecki led the way with three goals and an assist, Sophomore Mike Smartt had three goals, and Junior goaltender Matt Beck made 16 saves at the Blue Devils outshot the Zip's 70-18. Delta College (10/13/2007) The game started with a fairly quick pace. LTU carried the play in the first,
but Delta started out with a quick 2 goal lead. LTU came back to tie
before the period was over with two late goals. Delta started the scoring
in the second, but LTU came back with 3 unanswered goals to end the
period. The third period was penalty-ridden, however Tommy Beetham
came up with several key saves down the stretch to preserve the win. Kyle
DeHenau had a hat trick for the Blue Devils.
